One of the biggest concerns for me, ironically, whilst working in the fitness industry, is actually eating on time, and getting proper & balanced nutrition into my system.
Let’s face it, I’m ridiculously busy, running around and looking after my family’s needs first, especially my 2.5 year old, I’m left with little time for myself.
I recently downloaded this amazing App called HealthifyMe and it is a God sent.
It’s a powerful little App yet with a super user-friendly interface, that keeps track of your daily food consumption of macros, micros.. even the amount of water that you drink. Basically you key in what you have for breakfast, lunch, dinner even snacks in between – the app tells you if it’s good or bad, enough or too much or even too little, for your daily needs.
You start off the day with Zero Calories on your quota, and as you eat and consume your meals, you key in exactly what you eat, broken down for you into 5 meals. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and 2 snacks in between.
Now it’s true, not everybody’s lifestyle or metabolism is the same. So this App even takes into account if you have an active lifestyle or sedentary lifestyle. Once you’ve keyed in your weight and height, the App will know your BMI and what your dietary calorific intake should be – mine happens to be in the normal BMI range, so I have a 2100 Cal quota per day, as I lead a super active lifestyle as well.
It can connect to your pedometers, GPS running devices, etc, to keep track of your exact daily mileage and as well as calculate how much you burn if you exercise. Take for example,I teach ride HIIT and run in the mornings. Sometimes I work out at the Gym.
It shows that I can burn anywhere between 500-800 Cals, and it’s pretty spot on.
I love the fact it reminds me to eat 3 square meals a day. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and it breaks down my food by categories and food groups. It can pick up trends such as if I’ve eaten too much carbs or saturated fats each week. The database of food is also impressive. Unlike many other Apps, this one has a massive database of both Western as well as Asian food.
So after using this App for a mere one week I discovered that I actually do NOT eat enough carbs for my hectic lifestyle (though I do eat a lot of rice). It also showed a FAT intake that was slightly on the higher side. It showed that I also did not vary my food types enough. (That’s obvious because, we always tend to eat the things we like right, rather than purposefully vary it – it’s human nature of course).
The App is completely free, but if you want customised services (ie. for a Dietitian or Fitness coach), that’s available too for a small fee. I highly recommend you check out the App and see what it has to offer. It’s helped me keep track of my eating habits in an easy to manage way.
Really the best thing since sliced bread 😉
Stay tuned as I explore this App further to learn all it has to offer !
