Flamenco and Belly Dancing – Dance towards a healthier you!

Guess what I picked up this weekend?   That’s right, belly dancing, with my buddy Sherlyn.

Sherlyn has been trying to get me to join her dance class for ages.. but I’ve always looked for an excuse not to go. Truth is, I am shy and clumsy – I’d much rather be kicking ass at Combat and TRX. However, I finally hauled my reluctant behind to her class, and guess what? I loved it!

It was actually harder than certain combat moves because I had to activate certain muscles in my belly that I had not used for ages. It really strengthened my core, and made me feel great after the work out. Not only was the class great cardio, it was also fun, and we got to feel sexy for an hour, gyrating that belly! I had a ball of a time – I would highly recommend it to anybody looking for a dance routine to add to their cardio.

Famous throughout South East Asia as the first Malaysian professional Middle Eastern belly dance teacher to have taught locally and abroad, I had no idea that Sherlyn was such an accomplished dancer when I first met her. She’s a down to earth and approachable  person – she makes belly dancing class learnable and fun, and you know she’s good because she is one of Malaysia’s premier certified Raks Sharki instructors. Sherlyn has studied extensively with famous masters and visiting choreographers from Cairo, Turkey, Paris and USA.

Her studio where she gives lessons is situated in Sri Hartamas Kuala Lumpur, if you want to check it out!
