People believe, that a diet rich in superfoods will help you stay slim, be free of heart disease, and generally live longer. They believe that it will make your skin glow from the inside out, and that people will see the spring in your step. If you do fall ill, a diet rich in superfoods will help you bounce back faster.
So what are these superfoods?
Well, it is sometimes used to describe food with high nutrient or phytochemical content that may confer health benefits, such as low in saturated fats and artificial ingredients, food additives or contaminants. A very popular superfruit these days, are blueberries which contain moderate-rich concentrations of anthocyanins, vitamin C, manganese, and dietary fiber, pterostilbene (phytochemical) and low calorie content. If you will notice, this superfood has been around for ages, but it’s just recently that so much hype and interest has started over it. Other examples of superfoods include broccoli, spinach, pumpkin and tomatoes which are rich in various nutrients. All these fruits and vegetables contain a variety of nutrients and phytochemicals in varying amounts as do common plant foods like bananas, pineapples and potatoes which have only rarely been called superfoods. Fish may be considered a superfood due to their omega-3 fatty acids which may promote cognitive development.
