How to Stay Slique on your Travels

So the life of a travel blogger, a fitness nutritionist and a mom, is no easy task.

And definitely not as semi-charmed as some might believe.

It’s great that I get to live the life I love, yes. But it also means extra hard work trying to keep my shit together my family’s health, daily nutritional needs, and overall wellbeing in check whilst on travels. The tendency is to eat rubbish and to over-eat on holiday. I’ve actually contemplated cooking on holiday so my baby’s diet isn’t a mess. She’s starting to be a pickier eater, so there’s no fooling this kid. It’s been a challenge feeding her on travels I tell ya but more about those woes on another post.

As for me, I tend to binge eat or eat sweet things when I am stressed. And this means holidays could be disastrous for me. But thank God that the switch to Young Living products in our household has been a huge help. I’ve recently started on Slique Essence and it’s just fabulous for curbing sugar cravings. A God sent.

Slique Essence has grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, spearmint, and ocotea with stevia extract in it – it tastes like orange peel and is super fragrant… it supports healthy weight management goals. These ingredients work together to help control hunger – stevia the naturally occurring sugar adds a very light, trace of sweetness but it helps the body, by preventing spikes in insulin levels in the blood. What this means is that usually when we eat sweet things, there’s a spike in blood glucose, making our body respond by producing more insulin – which in turn makes blood glucose drop drastically, which makes our body crave even more sugar. This yo-yo effect is not good for the body. ¬†With Slique essence there’s a reduced tendency to binge eat on sweet things ¬†– less sugar cravings. Works great for me when I’m traveling. Just put a few drops in a big tumbler of water and sip it all day long. Refreshing and it’s a great habit to drink tons of water anyway, so win-win!

And as for Sclaressence, well what can I say.. That time of the month can be a huge pain in the ass if you ask me. Especially when traveling. Not only do you need to bring more female ‘equipment’ with you (sanitary pads, feminine wash, probiotics etc) but you’re constantly tired. And what about the bloatedness, the discomfort, the cramping. Arrrgh.. I hate it. Well, enter Sclaressence. Main ingredients being Peppermint, Clary Sage, Fennel – all great for balancing and supporting female hormones. I just make a 1:1 dilution of essential oil to V6 vegetable carrier oil, and rub it on my belly. I don’t know if it works for everybody but it works like a charm for me. Less muscle fatigue and hardly any cramping and I’m good to go. Gone are the days when I used to be down and out for days.

Well, we just got back from a long holiday in Boracay, so time to hit the laundry stack and do some cooking for bubs! Superwoman game strong. Stay tuned for more updates…
