Running on Holiday – The Bali Beach Run 2013

Holidays are great.

But are you like me, where you dread getting on the scales once you return home?

And usually, far away from stress and work, the holiday food and merry-making is so good whilst on holiday!

Well one of the great ways to prevent adding inches to your waist is making sure your holiday coincides with a run/marathon. Holidays can be a great time to run – you’re more relaxed, there’s a new place to explore and there might even be some better weather.

We took part in the Bali Beach Run this weekend (24th November 2013) and it was awesome fun. There was only the 5K run and the 10K run, so we opted for the 10K. Organized by AirAsia, we were really looking forward to returning to Bali – one of our favourite holiday destinations in South East Asia.

The race started and finished at Kuta Beach, Bali. We started running at 6am, all the way to the hip and happening area of Seminyak, with a total distance of 10 kilometers (6,2 miles). We ran along the white sandy beach heading into Petitenget Beach.  The weather was awesome and cool, with a gentle sea breeze, albeit a little humid. The coastline was fairly flat as was devoid of broken glass and sea shells, but we were told to wear shoes for safety purpose.

After reaching Petitenget Beach, we took a right turn to Petitenget Main Street as started our leg of the run, on the main road. We ran through trendy Seminyak’s villas, hotels, restaurants and bars. We passed a religious Petitenget Temple site, and the ever so popular night spots, of Hu’u Bar and Kudeta. Upon re-entering beach area, we passed many colorful beach bars like La Plancha, continuing to Legian Beach Street, and then back onto the beach, until the finish line at Kuta Beach.

All in all a great run – will definitely be back for more. We are staying on Seminyak this time, and the food is awesome – good thing we’re earned our pig out sessions this holiday 🙂
