My Brazilian – Laser Hair Removal

If you’re like me, and love wearing that itsy bitsy teeny bikini every weekend, then waxing along the bikini area is a must.

But recently I found an even better, more pain free method of getting the Brazilian style done.  Laser hair removal.

If you want to know, how you can wear a bikini like this, read on…

I was recently invited to Face Factor’s Clinic at Publika, KL to check out their latest laser hair removal equipment and get my Brazilian done.

If you’re not happy with shaving, tweezing, or waxing to remove unwanted hair, laser hair removal is a great, option, with minimal discomfort, unlike the pain that one goes through during bikini waxing. Laser hair removal is one of the most commonly done cosmetic procedures in the U.S. It beams highly concentrated light into hair follicles. Pigment in the follicles absorb the light. That destroys the hair.

This laser can even be used to target areas like the face, legs, arms, underarms, bikini line, and other areas. How it works is by selectively target dark, coarse hairs while leaving the surrounding skin undamaged. Each pulse of the laser takes a fraction of a second and can treat many hairs at the same time. The laser can treat an area approximately the size of a quarter every second. Small areas such as the upper lip can be treated in a few minutes, and large areas, such as the back or legs, may take only up to an hour plus.

Laser hair removal requires a trained personal to administer the treatment, so make sure you go to a reputable clinic. If you plan to go for laser treatment, make sure you limit plucking, waxing for six weeks before treatment. That’s because the laser targets the hairs’ roots, which are temporarily removed by waxing or plucking, so it will not be effective if you tweeze your roots away. You should also avoid sun exposure for six weeks before and after treatment.

Just before the procedure, the technician will shave you down till there is only a few millimeters above the skin surface. The laser equipment will be adjusted according to the color, thickness, and location of your hair being treated as well as your skin color.

The fairer your skin is, the more painless. Also the darker your hair the better, because the laser targets dark hair. If you have dark skin, you many have some minor discomfort, but it is mild and transient. In other words, contrast is key. Dark hair on fair skin is the most ideal.

The technician then passes you the appropriate eye protection. She then smears the area of your skin in the bikini region with a cold gel which helps keep your skin cool and also helps the laser light penetrate the skin.

Next, the technician will give a pulse of light to the treatment area and watches the area for several minutes to make sure the best settings were used and asks you for feedback if there is discomfort. Once you are comfortable she will do the entire area a few times over and the entire procedure takes only 40 minutes. The most discomfort is just a slight rubber-band snapping on the skin. With subsequent procedures, your hair will become more fine and there will be hardly any discomfort at all.

When the procedure is completed, they will put a mild steroid (anti-inflammatory) cream on the area, and that’s it! No pain and no redness nor soreness at all. Perfectly comfortable. You will then be told to schedule your next treatment four to six weeks later. Ninety percent of patients have permanent hair loss after an average of six sessions.

I really enjoyed my session at Face Factor’s Clinic because the technicians were professional and steady with their hands. There was no need to be embarrassed at all, as they were so nice and friendly. Basically they put you at ease for the word go. I also found out that for the entire body hair removal, the cost is only RM1800. That’s crazy cheap! Well, I don’t have that much facial or body hair so I will stick to just the Brazilian, but I am sure many folks can benefit from that full body hair removal price. I love it because now I can wear the teeniest bikini with confidence.. You should see the looks I get at the pool ! 🙂 My husband loves it too.. so it’s really the best thing in the world since, err … sliced bread 😛
