Swimming for a great cardio workout

I could swim, almost before I could run.

When I was two, my father chucked me in to the swimming pool and I took to it like a pig to mud, or a cow to cud.

Anyway, I love the sun, just as much as I love swimming. Sometimes when my muscles are just too sore from TRX or running, I swim instead. After that I catch up with reading by the pool. And.. oh, the tan is a bonus!

Of course I use heaps of sunscreen on my face and on my body to cut out the sun’s harmful effects. As free radicals in sunlight can cause premature skin aging, skin cancer, and a host of skin changes, one should always use sunblock. Exposure to ultraviolet light, UVA or UVB, from sunlight accounts for 90% of the symptoms of premature skin aging, so lathering up on sunblock is a must. Morning rays are also less damaging than the noon day sun, and that’s why I opt to swim in the mornings on weekends. The best sunscreen I’ve ever used is light, and does not give me zits, and they include Clarins UV Plus HP Day Screen High Protection SPF 40Clarins Sunscreen for Face Wrinkle Control Cream SPF 50+ and Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Lotion For Face & Body SPF 55.

If you do not like the sun, but still want to sport a healthy natural tan, then try the best two in the market at the moment – Clarins Delectable Self Tanning Mousse and Clarins Self Tanning Instant Gel. Other brands on the market are just rubbish – streaky and hard to apply, so don’t even bother.

After a swim and shower, I always take extra care to moisturize as the sun will inevitably dry out your skin. Most women know this, but men should try it too. I alternate between Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst ReliefBiotherm Aquasource Nuit High Density Hydrating Jelly and CHANEL by Chanel Precision Hydramax Active Moisture Cream. I find them all lightweight but provide aquedate moisture and don’t leave me sticky and icky!
