Looking beautiful and applying the perfect make up for the perfect occasion is something that every girl knows, or should know, like second nature. However, what goes on behind closed doors, when the make up is peeled off and the evening grown falls to the floor has far more significance and impact on our skin, than just making it look ‘nice’ during the day. So why do some people have young looking skin even in their thirties? Skin care is about looking great, even without make up on. Young looking skin comes from within.
Here are 5 ways to keep that youthful glow about you, and keep your skin looking young.
sunscreen is our friend!
1.) Dont Forget Your Neck
Most people will slather on loads of expensive moisturising creams or anti-aging products on to their face. But they tend to forget the neck. The decolletage (neck) delicate skin can lose elasticity easily and if not taken care of, will be dehydrated and look flabby. Revision Nectifirm is a great product to nourish the neck area.
2.) Eat Correctly
We all love using creams and serums on our skin, but do we think about nourishing the skin from within? Dermatologists will tell you that a diet high in Vitamins A, D, E, and C as well as Fish Oils and other antioxidants are great for the skin. Since our diet does not allow us to take in as much of these antioxidants as we would like, supplements are a great way to boost your skin’s health. Try Centrum, for an all rounded multivitamin for the body and Cod liver oil & EPA omega 3 supplements for the skin.
3.) Don’t Skimp on the Sunscreen
Don’t skimp on the sunscreen, or if you are lazy like me, pick a moisturiser and a foundation that already has a SPF of 15 -30. That eliminates the extra step in applying sunscreen. However, make sure you take more efforts to double cleanse your skin in the evenings as products with sunscreen tend to clog up the pores even more. During exercise or swimming, reapply sunscreen every 2 hours. For the face, I like to use Clarins Sunscreen Cream High Protection SPF30. For the body, during a swim I like the oil based – Banana Boat Sport, SPF15. For outdoor sports and games I like to use the very light , non-greasy Kiehl’s Vital Sun Protect Spray, Very Water Resistant SPF15. This is a superb product as it goes on so fine (like a film of water) you don’t even realise it’s there!
4.) Pay attention to your Hands
Ever noticed that no matter how botoxed out some celebrities looks, his or her crow feet hands, always give his/her age away? Well, next to your face, your hands will show the earliest signs of aging. You’re always handling stuff with your hands.. sometimes chemicals and cleaners around the house will cause your hands to flake and dry out. If you don’t pay attention to your hands now, one day you will wake up with a wrinkly pair you don’t recognise. I totally dig l’occitane’s hand cream because they just disappear into your hands. Even my husband who hates that greasy after feel of hand-creams will allow me to put some on his.

even on holiday, take time to rest and sleep.. and drink loads of water!
5.) Get enough Water and Sleep
Most members of our Generation X, Y and etc, are busy bees flitting from one activity to another, trying to fit a million things into the day and night. In the constant race to achieve more, the age-old “early to bed and early to rise” proverb has been conveniently remixed to “late to bed and early to rise”. Water and sleep – these two go hand in hand. They are the golden rule of youthful and supple looking skin. Ever noticed how after a power-nap, your skin looks great? My colleague always tells me that her eye-bags disappear after a short nap.
We need sleep and a proper amount of it each night; for the simple reason that the body repairs itself in the time that we are in dreamland. Sufficient sleep can even reduce lifestyle diseases like obesity, hypertension, stress, high cholesterol, diabetes, depressed immunity, hormonal imbalances, and depression. Drink lots of water and fruit juices to purify body from toxins. Drink eight full glasses of water a day which is roughly equivalent to 64 ounces (1.9l) of water. Eating fresh fruits are a great source of water and vitamins and minerals too. I love to eat watermelon, honeydew, papayas and mango. These are my staple every week and my husband does the shopping so he knows to buy tons of these fruits for me;)

Lazy ppl like me always use moisturiser with SPF 15 haha!
Same here darling! And.. wow, you’re my first commenter! yay me.. yay you;)
